About The Band
YEARS ACTIVE : 1983
HOME CITY : Vladivostok
Named after a Finnish novel, this rock band prides itself on being one of Russia's windows on the West. Many of their shows take place in Scandinavia and other parts of Europe, and one performance was in Nuuk, Greenland! The band's members are very progressive and socially-conscious, attracting enormous media attention and holding multiple press conferences to raise awareness about and stop the spread of HIV/AIDS. Although Mumiy Troll was considered 'socially dangerous' and was censored heavily by the former government, they are now thought to be national heroes. Their music is a punk-influenced, unique brand of rock. Most of their songs are upbeat and fun to listen to (with great guitar riffs!) but there are many with serious lyrics as well. Very good for rock fans and anyone who wants a very 'user-friendly' taste of Russian rock music--Mumiy Troll's music is almost addictive, and they also care about society.
